The e-studio for Advanced Architecture of Andalucía is an architectural practice, whose main target is producing energy efficient designs using digital technologies and parametric techniques. The e3a creates flexible designs capable of dealing with complex social parameters and bioclimatic factors.

Lem3a will offer a Postgraduate Master’s program in Advanced Architecture. This program will provide a technological base to face the unsustainable reality of our territory in a more efficient way. Environmental and Bioclimatic design, Parametric Techniques and Digital Fabrication are the main matters of study. m3a incorporates practical training periods at the e3a and the l3a as part of the practical learning methodology.

Laboratory for Advanced Architecture of Andalucía, located at the Technological Park of Málaga, researches on Digital tools and Parametric Architecture associated to Sustainability and Environmental Design. At this first stage of Lem3a, the two main fields of study are Kinetic Responsive systems and materials, and Environmental optimisation in territorial occupations.

Se basa en el estudio y evaluación de los efectos del clima en el hombre. El medio ambiente está formado por numerosos elementos relacionados (luz, sonido, temperatura, espacio, etc.) todos ellos incidentes directamente en el cuerpo humano. La arquitectura, en su principio de protección y confort térmico a los usuarios, requiere someterse bajo una “interpretación bioclimática”, interaccionando entre el individuo y el medio natural que lo envuelve. Por ello es necesario analizar minuciosamente las características climáticas del entorno, para que mediante su adaptación, se permita un mayor aprovechamiento de los recursos naturales disponibles (radiación solar, viento, lluvia, etc.), reduciendo los impactos ambientales entre el exterior y el interior de una edificación. Para ello contamos con el desarrollo de herramientas tecnológicas basadas en un análisis científico apoyado en la biología humana, la meteorología y la ingeniería, generando principios arquitectónicos aplicables según las condiciones climáticas locales, reduciendo la contaminación y los costos económicos que soportan las construcciones de hoy en día.

Parametricism and Parametric Architecture

Parametricism was formally defined by Patrick Schumacher in his Parametricist Manifesto for the11th Architecture Biennale, Venice 2008: “Parametricism as style”.
This manifesto defines Parametricism as the new style in Architecture after Modernism: associative systems created to absorb the complexity of today’s multi-centre cities. Numerous layers, which are in permanent variation, form our Society, and in order to be efficient the new design methods must control, process and give a new order to this complexity. 
The concept of Parametric Architecture & Urbanism is derived from the techniques and methodologies of Parametricism, which are based on:
  • Using digital tools to design a new world with its own laws of creativity, logic and associations.
  • Creating a new nature based on the laws of correlation between all parameters.
  • Creating a new innovative species, a new complex order and as a result, a new beauty.
